I am trying flexbackup again (under e-smith 4.01) and find it a bit
difficult ...

For testing purposes, I do a backup for a specific directory with

1. initialise a new tape: "flexbackup -newtape"
which results in:

flexbackup version 0.9.8 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
/etc/flexbackup.conf syntax OK

|------------------------------------------------
| Rewinding & erasing tape...
| Creating index key 200101221755.21
|------------------------------------------------

2. run the backup with "flexbackup -fs /tmp"
results:

flexbackup version 0.9.8 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
/etc/flexbackup.conf syntax OK

|------------------------------------------------
| Doing level 0 backup of /tmp using dump
| ERROR: This tape doesn't have an index! (use -erase?)
| Making sure tape is at end of data...

At block 3.

|------------------------------------------------
| Rewinding...
| Compressing log (tmp.0.20010122.gz)
| Linking tmp.latest.gz -> tmp.0.20010122.gz
|------------------------------------------------

There are already a few questions:
1. Dump talks about 494 tape blocks but the log makes me believe the data
takes from block 3 to block 5 only (might be different "blocks" meant here?)
2. Average transfer rate 0 KB?

When I try "flexbackup -toc"
results:
flexbackup version 0.9.8 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
/etc/flexbackup.conf syntax OK

|------------------------------------------------
| ERROR: This tape doesn't have an index! (use -erase?)
|------------------------------------------------

And here I am stuck. BTW, it's an older SCSI tape device, a Wangdat 3200.

Anybody with more experience for that? Darrell, Brandon where are you ;-)

Regards,
Michael Doerner
