That is what I'd prefer. It would get confusing keeping track of the various
server names. "It's this machine name in Unix, that workstation name in
Samba, the other name in AppleTalk..." Yuk!

Also, there is the issue of the subdomain, though perhaps not quite as
clearly defined. I'm on a subdomain of agdev.reyrey.com and wanted my
e-smith server to have the same subdomain (after making sure there are no
other www, mail, etc, machines on the subdomain, of course!) I'm also in a
Windows workgroup called agdev.

Therefore:

My system name in Unix, Samba, and Windows is the same name.

My subdomain and workgroup names are the same. (Doesn't AppleTalk have some
concept of zones or similar, too?)
