That's true for most mailing list manager web interfaces.

I haven't yet seen a bidirectional web<->mail interface that works well
for both ends. Some of the bulletin board systems (e.g. Phorum) have
support for this, but usually one of the sides is a poor relation.

That's exactly what my contrib does - it's functional but primitive. 
Install it and you'll have a new manager item in the navigation bar.
