glibc-2.3 introduced some changes in the way errno was defined. This presents some problems with programs complied against glibc-2.2. The qmail suite (which included qmail-pop3d) is one of those packages that suffers from an upgrade from glibc-2.2 to glibc-2.3. Do a google search for "qmail errno glibc" and you'll see heaps of pointers.
