ProjectPier is an open-source branch of the now-commercialized activeCollab, originally conceived as a Basecamp alternative. I'm trying out installations of ProjectPier for IxDA's project management and for another project as well. It's only been a few weeks, but the initial experience has been good. Eerily similar to Basecamp, but makes me want to jump off a bridge much less :-). About as easy to get up and running as Wordpress!
It lacks a built-in writeboard app, but since it's open source, there are a few people working on this feature, as well as a few folks writing modules and coming up with ways to integrate other web-based apps into the platform. My hope is that, as a community, we can do some design-led open-source work to contribute to this project.
