Wendy, What Google offers in their Developer Guide is sparse and dev-centric (make x menu using this code). I've taken to looking at Google's apps (Gmail, Maps, Browser, etc.) for starters, and then looking at some of the more popular ones like MySpace, Facebook, Weather Channel, PhoneFlix, the Telegraph, etc., the last one taking a decidedly iPhone approach to their design (which is how I've personally thought to do, as well).
