My SB3 Classic became comatose a few weeks ago, no sign of life whatsoever, not even a pleasing red glow from the optical out. I removed the WLAN card and viola!, it lived, albeit now a wired SB3 only. So, assuming your SB3 is also a wireless version then this may be something to try along with your natural Kiwi ingenuity.
