You have something strange going on for sure. I've been running
Leopard without any problems and I even upgraded two Tiger machines
with no problems. Upgrading to iTunes 7.7 went fine here. Have you
considered reinstalling Leopard from scratch? What type of machine are
you running this on?

iTunes 7.7 installed badly over here. Get through the double
license process once after authentication and again when the
software runs for the first time. I had already configured the last
version of iTunes and had answered all of the questions especially
the one for what to name the library. So after the second license
agreement, iTunes 7.7 asks me what to name the library. I hit
escape then turned the computer off with the power button and then
restarted and ran disk utility and repaired permissions on the disk
then ran iTunes 7.7 again and this time was rewarded with yet
another blank screen and the menus could not be brought up. So I
shut the computer down a second time with the power button and in a
while I'll run disk utility again and repair permissions again.
Maybe iTunes will do something like pretend to work. Leopard, I've
had underpowered windows systems boot up faster; this one ought to
have been called lazy cat or fat cat or dead cat rather than
leopard. I had tiger earlier and am considering upgrading to Tiger
too unless much starts improving shortly. Boot up times are
routinely without any disk problems on the order of 10 minutes to
give you an idea.
