(Note, I am the author of the Generic Authorization branch.) The merging was never completed, and has pretty much been put on hold until the newforms-admin branch is merged to trunk. newforms-admin makes it all a lot cleaner and easier. I expect to revisit generic-auth sometime next year. I'm not sure that it will ever make it into django though. The newforms-admin branch fills a lot of the needs that generic-auth was trying to solve. It may end up as a 3rd party add-on at some point.
