Good you got scrolling to work. In case it helps, this is what works for me to enable tap functions, rather than mess with xorg configs:
synclient TapButton1=1 LBCornerButton=2 RBCornerButton=3 MaxTapTime=140 SingleTapTimeout=140 MaxDoubleTapTime=140 Try first in a user terminal, if it works script it and put in user's "autostart".
