After reading the manual, concluded that V2 is used as an amplifier on 80M, as
first mixer on higher bands. So, decided to replace V2 with another 6U8 I had
from working on a Globe Scout. Replaced V2, receiver is working again.
Had gotten a suggestion somewhere to replace the original 6U8 with a 6EA8, and
that is evidently the tube that went south. I'll test it with my old emission
tester when have time, but doubt that will shed any further light on the
failure mode.
