The reply didn't help me at all, "DISPLAY=:0 compiz &" is nothing just freezing for ages?? trust me I've tried it in every single way and I mean it, maybe it'll works and fix other problems but not this!! lets say I did [sudo reboot] <<< more than 100 times; if that's fare enough for you to believe me
with deep search after 4-6 hours personal help noone else I fixed it! tbh I have no idea which commands that return my desktop back & I can not guaranteed any commands below that if you face same problem I did as files/folders record say, I hope someone can help you; and that's not me ofc.... I listen to people who say; Oooh, it's very easy to fix it just type: compiz --replace ... other one say no this not work just try this one type: unity --reset ????? Now I have something for these poeple how about trying this: sudo apt-get GTFO Me think this is the main reason why I changed this to "Private" as Seth Arnold don't like it and he give me that BIG respectable lessons . I mean srsly? with only ONE tick on the unity panel make me suffer; I didn't miss up with anything just a tiny lettle TICK make my desktop disappeared completely ; anyway now this is the road that I took for my issus good luck to take it all the way till solve the problem... COMMANDS start from here: sudo lshw -C display; lsb_release -a; uname -a sudo apt-get purge fglrx-legacy sudo apt-get install ppa-purge sudo ppa-purge ppa:makson96/fglrx sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx libgl1-mesa-dri xserver-xorg-core sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup sudo rm -rf /etc/ati Reboot. Unity should now work. If you want, you can try adding the ppa back and installing fglrx-legacy again rm -rf .compiz* .gconf* .config/dconf/ .config/compiz* sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-mono ubuntu-minimal sudo apt-get install --reinstall unity-common unity-2d-common gconftool --shutdown sudo killall -r -I gconf sudo killall -r -I dconf rm -rf .compiz* .gconf* .config/dconf/ .config/compiz* sudo apt-get install --reinstall gsettings-desktop-schemas sudo apt-get purge nvidia-* sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx xserver-xorg-video-nouveau sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg sudo apt-get install --reisntall gnome-shell gnome-session-fallback rm .Xauthority P.S.: Before I forget there is one important thingl DO NOT forget: "sudo apt-get update" also don't take anything from me coz am completely noob but I can handle my own things on my way; not alwys ofc but if there are no one free to get a friendly hand other than looking from above his/her nose and see ok try this??? >>> REMEMBER: Using commandsat your own risk | am not responsible for any lost/action/damage/problems/whatever you take/benefit.
