Actually, depending on the VAN, you CAN set it up so that one partner pays
for it all -- I believe Sterling calls this "reverse billing". Personally,
I like the default billing method the way it is -- otherwise, the
dictatorial Trading Partners who require us to send volumes of data without
returning the favor would be getting a free service while we footed the
entire bill! The current method keeps everyone paying their fair share.

Cindy,

I just haven't figured out how to get my mail carrier to re-deliver the
mail
to me if it gets lost or destroyed. They might start to charge me if I ask
them to only deliver to me mail from people of whom I have 'a priori'
knowledge.

Many VANs do more than just deliver the mail, i.e., TP solicitation,
in-house translation, etc..

good question...

Bill

Subject: VAN Charges

I have a question for VANs. Simply put, can any VAN explain why there is a
charge for sending AND receiving? Should it work like snail mail, the
sending party pays the postage? My mail carrier does not charge me to
receive my mail, why does my VAN?

Just a question.
