I can't tell. I launched all Emacsen with -Q. I never set any variable during this. If you can give me a script that saves all variables their values into a file, I would run it before and after ediff ... Can it be that the *Ediff Control Panel* is something special, mini- buffer like? Or that some pointer to a cursor sticks in a vanished screen or its mini-buffer?
