Here is one more, that seems to confirm that Emacs.app is producing errors:

Both mode-lines (the upper is from dired, the lower from calendar) are shifted a bit to the left (both - and < are clipped, you can compare - with the - right from %%). And this failure of shifting is repeated for tabbar. It's likely that more computational errors happen, so that the left fringe protrudes the tabbar area.
The diary buffer has header line similar to tabbar, only without variable elements. It never gets partly obscured by any fringe – because it's drawn always as last, always on top?
The clipping also when launched with -Q.
