which they clearly are not - never have been, and as such you are fine. the
ONLY things to worry about are

1. emotion itself (ie it must comply with gpl when shipped WITH a system that
packages vlc or xine modules - it doesnt mean emotion *IS* GPL, but it must
COMPLY (that is make full source available under the same terms of the GPL -
which in effect makes emotion GPL, *IF* you ship using the xine or vlc modules).
2. any apps that use emotion *MAY* be "effectively" GPL, *IF* they use the xine
or vlc modules of emotion. if they do, they are effectively GPL (i.e. have to
comply with the GPL like emotion needs to).

yes this is confusing. the only time it is clear is when you have a system as a
whole. that is emotion, compiled and installed, with whatever choice of modules
desired, and then have something built on top using it. based on that setup,
the dependency tree from emotion and the chosen module(s) and up may be "GPL
infected" or it may not be. if you don't want that always use only gstreamer
back-end modules for emotion.
