You are assuming the interface for both is the same and that swapping one
for the other will make it all work. It doesn't work that way.

Some new features in Mac OS X will work that way as they are just replacing
what already existed. An example is the open and save dialog boxes. The
programming interface stayed the same. This is not the case with the
compression in Entourage. You would have to create a new StuffIt Engine,
which has the same programming interface as the old one but creates .zip
files instead of .sit files. The built-in .zip compression in OS X is not a
rework of the StuffIt Engine.
