pop vs iMap

When setup to a pop server, and especially in times of poor internet  
access, I find that entourage has a tendency to forget which pop  
messages it has downloaded, and it simply re-downloads everything.

If I were to move to an imap setup, would entourage be better able to  
handle which message has or has not been downloaded?
