Is it possible that you're running an installation that's not on your system drive? IE, are there any other programs over the net?
And how are you starting SE? If you're starting the application in the Applications folder, fine - but if you're clicking on a link, you might Get Info and look where it thinks the original is... Do a Searchlight and see if there are any other executables anywhere, as well. There were times when Entourage thought a renegade v8.x I had on a second partition was the one to use -when I had 10 installed in the applications folder. And my standard 'If you're experiencing odd problems' admonition is 'reboot your computer and see if it still happens'. Good luck!
