-Mitsubishi has recalled hundreds of thousands of cars due to faulty parts
-Problems include defective power steering and electrical components
-Popular models manufactured between 2009 and 2016 are affected
-There have been no confirmed accidents or injuries relating to the recalls

Mitsubishi has recalled hundreds of thousands of cars with faulty power
steering, electronic components and fuel tank problems.

The Japanese manufacturer issued seven separate recall notices through the
Australian Competition and Consumer Commission on Wednesday.

A number of popular models manufactured between 2009 and 2016 have been
recalled ...

Owners have been warned by the ACCC that the defects could cause accidents
in some conditions.

Mitsubishi Motors Australia spokesperson Shayna Welsh said the recalls were
issued as a precautionary measure, and there have been no confirmed
accidents or injuries relating to the faults.

She said safety was the company's 'number one priority'.

'This is why we are committed to the proactive and voluntary safety recall
process, whereby Mitsubishi Motors Australia notifies all customers affected
by a vehicle recall by letter as soon as an issue becomes apparent.'

Customer notification will begin this week, Ms Welsh said.

Among the cars to be recalled are six Mitsubishi models that have defective
indicator signal and lighting switch connector terminals.

They included the ... GA & GB i-MiEV ...
In total 383,379 cars are affected by the problem.

Owners have been warned the terminals may become worn because they are not
rigid enough, resulting in the buildup of oxidised rust that can impair
terminal conductivity.

Continued use in this condition could cause 'conduction failure', the recall
notice said, resulting in various car lights failing to work or working only
intermittently ...

A faulty electrical part means that voltage inside Mitsubishi’s trademark
electrical system is unstable, the ACCC said.

This may result in headlights turning on and off and the window wipers not
working.

‘Under certain driving conditions, this could potentially cause an
accident,’ the recall notice said ...

Mitsubishi’s i-MiEV, a five-door electric car, was another in the range to
be recalled.
Owners of the 2012 model have been advised that there is a problem with the
system that controls the driver motor in the electric vehicles.

The defect could lead to a 'loss of driving motor power' and also mean the
car fails to start and the battery may not charge.

This could 'potentially cause an accident', the ACCC said.
Owners of the 2012 and 2010 models have also been advised that there is an
issue with the car's brake vacuum pump.

This could lead to stopping distances increasing, potentially causing an
accident.
Customers have been advised to visit a dealer to arrange an inspection and
rectification, if required.
There will be no cost to the customer.
