Sorry, still trouble, I'm back, need a little hand-holding I guess. I'm on 2000c (Mac). What you're suggesting makes sense: I should Lock all systems, then Unlock the one I want to break, then break it! So, I go to MM, select All, Lock Systems, then select just the one and Unlock it. (Meanwhile, Options/Update Layout Options/Reflow Measures is set to "Reflow across system (Remove Fit Music groupings)". Thinking all is well at last, I go to Meas.tool, dbl.click the measure which should start the new system, and: ALL "Fit Music" groups have been removed, IOW the system "locks" have done nothing that I can see. I imagine the remaining mystery has to do with locking/unlocking systems. I tried to RTFM, and I find nothing in the index under "Systems, to lock.." or nothing under "Locking..."
