I was getting the same problem. Here is my result of 'fink list gtkhtml':

[homer:~] brianwen% fink list gtkhtml
unknown terminal "network"
Information about 2126 packages read in 3 seconds.

i gtkhtml 1.0.2-4 HTML rendering/printing/editing engine
i gtkhtml-dev 1.0.2-4 HTML rendering/printing/editing engine
i gtkhtml-shlibs 1.0.2-4 HTML rendering/printing/editing engine
gtkhtml1.1 1.1.7-1 HTML rendering/printing/editing engine
i gtkhtml1.1-dev 1.1.7-1 HTML rendering/printing/editing engine
i gtkhtml1.1-shli 1.1.7-1 HTML rendering/printing/editing engine
libgtkhtml2 2.0.3-1 HTML rendering/printing/editing engine
libgtkhtml2-shl 2.0.3-1 HTML rendering/printing/editing engine

Is there a way around this? It's kind of getting in the way of my trying to do 'fink update-all'. This error comes up, and then the process stops. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

Nothing's screwed up. Fink downloaded, compiled, but did not install
gtkhtml1.1. I had the same thing happen when I updated Evolution,
because the new veresion requires gtkhtml1.1.

Check and see what's actually installed with "fink list gtkhtml"

I pasted my error message at the bottom of this email.

I don't know exactly which package Fink was working on at the time; I'd typed "fink update-all" and it was updating several packages.

If I'm reading this right, Fink had downloaded & compiled gtkhtml1.1-dev & then found out it conflicted with the original gtkhtml.

What confuses me is that it looks like /after/ Fink recognized this conflict, it tried to set up gtkhtml1.1-dev /anyway/.

My questions are: is anything screwed up? or can I leave my setup as it is?
should I do something to gnome-core-shlibs to make it accept gtk1.1-dev?
should I now remove gtk1.1-dev or leave it there for later use?

Thanks,
Complex
