Agreed.  But it wouldn't be too hard to switch later from 
shell-interface to Perl-interface if one becomes available.

You're referring to Fink's internal use of shell commands, maybe?  I'm 
not sure what you're driving at.

In any case, I feel like there's not a whole lot of difference between 
calling Fink Perl methods directly and calling them from a bunch of Perl 
one-liners, except from an aesthetic point of view.  But maybe there's 
something I haven't considered.
