The fundamental problem here, as I see it, is that by rights autoconf*
should be BuildDependsOnly-style packages which can be swapped out
freely, but since automake* carry a Depends: on autoconf, this behavior
is defeated.

The only way around it that I know of is to build packages one (or a
few) at a time.
