A good source is the man page of ipfwadm. If you don't have it, visit
http://secretagent.com/doc/man/8/ipfwadm/ipfwadm_8.html
I found it completely out of the blue and it helped me quite a lot.
Also, X/OS has a white paper for ipfwadm which you could have a look just
