What a lovely can of worms you have there. 8-)

Having been self-taught in both areas for a number of years, and
realizing that most folks know less than they *think* they know about
either O/S, security becomes a relative issue in this instance. I know
NT gurus who aren't and a few Linux gurus who aren't, but then I also
know that a One True Guru (OTG)<tm> can do wonders with whatever
operating system is thrust upon them.

I do know that the super-spooks of this industry, the Department of
Defense, once rested their entire case on NT, but in recent years have
put nearly their entire array of NT servers behind Linux boxes running
either secure shell <ssh> or tcpd wrappers using highly-customized
kernel adaptations. This endeavor, done at the Bremerton naval
facilities in Bremerton, Washington.

On the other hand, Bank of America runs most of their operations behind
NT running firewall applications of various kinds, so go figure. ;-)

Me? I run Linux, self taught in less than two years. As one of my
personal gurus once noted, so long as you stay away from the application
layer and stick to network/security issues, you are safe from scrutiny.
Of course, he could have been wrong. One never knows about such things.
As for the battle between NT and Linux, I believe that is termed
flame-bait, and thus I avoid such discussions whenever possible in an
attempt to remain politically correct.

After all, this is the most-informative and interesting list of its kind
I have found, and I would not want to see it ripped asunder by flame
wars.
