What happens is that server A contacts a portmapper process on server B
listening on port 135, which then returns two ports at random for subsequent
communication. This is documented in the MS knowledge base, but
unfortunately I don't have the article numbers. If you want to only open up
specific ports on your filters to let traffic through you can tweak the
servers' registries.

best of luck

Subject: MS Exchange ports

We are attempting to allow the Exchange server to communicate through a
firewall type setup to a second exchange server. This is an internal
firewall, and we need to allow the two servers to pass mail to the
different groups.

What I am interested in finding out is the ports which will need to be
opened on the firewall. Has anyone done this before, and if so, what
ports does it communicate upon.

Thanks
Jonathan
