I can only tell you what I've learned from Nokia sales, and working for
Cisco. I no longer work for Cisco, but I may still be biased, who knows.
First of all, a PIX-515-UR plus failover chassis supports failover in
hardware and costs about $15,000 total, with two 10mbps and four 100mbps
interfaces in each chassis. A pair of Lucent bricks and the software
necessary for configuring the bricks is $25,000. You ALSO need an
additional software package to handle failover. My Lucent sales rep was
fairly brainded and couldn't seem to manage to get me a price on that
software.
I have no experience implementing the Bricks, which are 4u boxen. The
PIXen are 2u, so the 515 plus the failover chassis is a total of 4u. It
really just seems like a better solution all around unless you're
planning to do VPN directly to the firewall, rather than tunneling.
