Many thanks to everyone who sent me e-mail after my request for assistance
:)
I've made some alterations to my firewall rules and already I'm finding less
port scans, port 113 was obviously giving the scanners a good base to work
from! :-)
It was suggested to me that the free on-line security scanners were a good
way to check my firewall but I'm a little suspicious of those (particularly
as I 'need info'). I did try two sites and they reported that my PC was
adequately protected.

Next questions then, if someone would be so good:
Are the net security services worth trying as a 'semi-serious' means to
establish PC security holes?
Are there any good, reliable & 'safe' sites that anyone can recommend for
auto scanning of my PC firewall config?

I tried and failed to queue for hours for a security scan at
http://www.secure-me.net/ any faster alternatives please?

Many thanks!

Regards

P.S. Thanks Mark, that's a lot of reading!
