There is no information anywhere on their web site that states if these
boxen have a BIOS that supports a serial console. As they claim to be
standard chipset motherboards with graphics onboard, I doubt that they meet
my stated requirements.
To be more explicit, I need a box that:
- Is rack-mountable
- Uses a serial console
- Can support at least 3 10/100 network ports (one PCI slot can provide at
least 4)
- Runs some flavour of UNIX, preferably something that runs IPFILTER (*BSD
etc.)
- Is as cheap as is feasible, preferably under US$2000
So far, all I've found is the Cobalt RaQ3i, and it runs Linux and is just
slightly over my price target. It would be interesting to try and load *BSD
on one of them.
