Hmmmm, it really depends on which direction you want to go. Are you looking
for a software based firewall or a hardware based firewall? There are pros
and cons to both which could get lengthy to discuss but quickly:

Hardware firewall's (i.e. Cisco PIX) tend to be quicker than software
firewall's (Checkpoint) but software firewall's tend to be more flexible in
rule sets than hardware ones. I've used Gauntlet, Checkpoint, Cisco PIX,
and even ipchains on Linux and have found that each is has its own areas for
deployment. Obviously there are major price differences so you really need
to:

1. Evaluate what you want the firewall to do
2. Decide on a cost thats comfortable to you
3. Make sure that the firewall can handle the amount of traffic you expect
to receive
4. The firewall supports the most current security measures (anti-spoofing,
etc.)

I'm sure there are plenty of gurus on this list that can help you narrow
your search down.

Subject: Best FireWall Protection

Hello to all on the group. This is my first posting so bear with me
please. I am new to firewalls and their capabilities, however, I am in
need of one for my ISP. I am searching for information and
recommendations on which one is the best to use. Information on my needs
is as follows.

I have two servers with approximately 15,000 on each.
We run FreeBSD 4.2

Looking for something that is user friendly and that will not degregate
my mail service too much. Thanks for any and all help.
