Here is some info on DDoS attacks I just encountered.
Also learn about ICMP Smurf Attacks, stopped by Cisco routers using "no ip
directed-broadcast" on all interfaceces. Check www.cisco.com for more info
on this command
Reconasaince is also something to understand, ie Ping Sweeps, SYN Sweeps,
Fragmeneted Ping Sweepes, and many abuses of ICMP. Employ Snort (Free) or
Cisco Netranger or ISS Real Secure for Network based Intrusion detection
just inside your edge router.
www.google.com is your friend, use it to find any tidbit of information you
desire. It is one of the most comprehensive indexes of content on the
internet. It indexes many mailing lists(including this one) which are
archived on different web servers.
