So, since I know all machines and users in my lan, I can calmly give telnets
to the root user (considering the client and server are here, in my lan).

sniffer can "SEE" that anything passing by.
remote host connecting other remote host which are not your LAN.
the answer is NO. ( ie my credit transaction ..:-) )
Remote host trying to talk to a host in your LAN, most likely.
It is depend on where the sniffer is and how your lan is configured.
