Ah - sorry Martin, I knew you were using cvs, That's encouraging
though because when I first tried A-10, after finding that it
still solved without needing any changes, I thought it still
flew ok. Mind you, I've not been able to get my joystick
working after moving to a 2.6.15 kernel and Alsa so I've only
been able to use the keyboard or mouse - not ideal.

I try to get as much real info into the model as I can find but I
think that sometimes you've got be careful about the datum under
which the info applies.

For example, I've seen a good performance plot for the A-10 and
normally I'd pick the altitude and speed that I thought most
appropriate and use those, together with max-throttle, for the
cruise params (currently 0ft & 380kt, which seem to be the
max-speed conditions) but I also know from a good book on the
A-10 that I have, that the A-10 has a 'loiter' mode where one of
the engines is shut down to save fuel. The plane then just
flies a race-track pattern somewhere convenient until it's
either needed, relieved or can otherwise go home. In addition,
I believe that the service ceiling is 45k ft and I don't think
that the current cvs version can manage either the single engine
loiter mode at a reasonable altitude or get anywhere near
45000ft.

That was the basis of my thinking for using the loiter mode for
the cruise params but then the problem is what altitude and
speed do I use? I haven't found any actual numbers.

One problem is that there's always a lot of stuff that nearly
always has to be deduced e.g. the lift and drag from flaps and
spoilers, but where I can get real numbers I use them.

In fact, I'd like to make it clear that the A-10 isn't 'my'
aircraft - it's GPL'd and part of the FG project, so anyone can
fiddle with it. The only thing I wouldn't be very happy about
would be if someone, while working on the fdm, wanted to use
inaccurate numbers where accurate numbers were known, or at
least not without having a well thought out reason for doing so.

Having said that, wing geometry definitions are nearly always
something of a compromise between the real shape of the wing and
what you can specify in YASim, but then that's something that
has to be well thought out.

Anyway, back to the A-10 - would you like to try the current
version that I have? I'd welcome your feedback and would enjoy
collaborating with people on improving the fdm.
