The Aerostar-700 (in CVS) is pretty stable; Syd has done a great job tuning the values. I suspect the OpenAL problems you're seeing are reducing the frame-rate and hence causing instability. If your frame rate is still 'good', in spite of the OpenAL errors, then something odd is going on.
