also it is very small (your exe ~17k).
What about having watcom producing a com file? This would save a few
bytes for the exe header. As exe is not necessary (I assume) this would
be nice. Is there are reason for having exe?
No particular reason that I know of, but I have not really looked into this.
It is currently an .exe file mainly because that is the way Nagy Daniel
(the original author) released the code. Of course, now that it is
open-sourced --- and now that we know how to build it --- I guess we can
try to improve on it, add an automated testing regimen, etc.
Did you test this on real hardware or in a emulator?
I have tried running it in an emulator, but I have not really tested it
--- though I did check (and convince myself) that I did not accidentally
break anything when "porting" the program over.
