I've no objections as long as it's still shipped as part of the runtime. I don't know what trickery RedHat will use to shoehorn 2.3 into current distros, unless it's totally drop-in replaceable. The last time they provided Python 1.x and 2.x simultaneously, the newer version was named python2 (and caused lots of problems with the scripts, etc).
