Takes about 0% on my box, Asus Pundit, 2.4GHz Pentium, Mandriva 2007 
2.6.17.13-mm-desktop-3mdv #1 PREEMPT realtime kernel,  
Python 2.4.3.  (It is 1.6.1 svn version that fixes a number of unicode bugs).

What OS and kernel do you have?
