It seems that XFree-4 has only one utf8 locale en_US.utf8 and that
there are at the present time discussion/problems (i18n@XFree86.Org)
on how this locale force font loading ...

Yes, it seems that XFree  *-iso10646-1 fonts contains only a few part
of the all iso10646-1 characters. An other problems is that I think
that when you load a core X font all the characters are loaded, this
can cause memory problems. I think there is a way to load only
a part of an iso10646-1 font as iso10646[blabla]-1 or someting like
this I need to re found a doc on this.
