Currently, element components are special cased all over the place. So, adding a polygon means adding an ElementPolygon() syntax, and modifying all the create/move/delete/copy/draw routines, plus stuff like save, convert to/from element, select, find, etc. It gets worse if the polygon is also a pin/pad (i.e. you can connect to it). Oh, and the autorouter and optimizers.
