A basic problem is that the master attribute list, symbol creation guide, and

gEDA application space. A symbol intended for printed circuit layout has

One good thing is that the various printed circuit netlisters are pretty 
similar in their use of attributes, so it's relatively easy to make symbols 
that are portable among those flows. This is unfortunately not true in the 
wider application space.
