Hi

I did a performance/cost analysis for my lab some months ago. From my
calculations, the best bang for the "swedish krona" I could find from the
limited number of suppliers I had available (drowning under crappy
brain-less purchase regulations) was to go with big stuff. So I did.

I bought:
Asus A7M266-D Mobos
AMD Athlon MP 2200+ CPUs
PXE bootable nw cards.
512MB ram
Which was all 'cool' stuff back then.

Then I built a openmosix cluster with remote booting nodes.
Works like a charm.

We run CPU bound calculations, so I wanted as much FPU power as possible
for my limited budget. Maximizing CPUs per "overhead equipment" was
essential.

Fewer machines also means less admin hassle, and remote booting really
takes a load of your shoulders.
