Ssmtp is not a mail_server_, but just a small replacement for /usr/bin/sendmail. It's purpose is just to 'forward' mails to a defined mailhub. Ssmtp was created to be able to use applications that need an working sendmail binary to send their mail (like mutt for example). If you already have a mailserver in your LAN, you don't want to install a full featured one on every workstation. Ssmtp doesn't listen on any ports and is not meant as an mailserver.
