there is not necesary downgrade, edit your /etc/make.conf and add this line into use flags: krb4
and recompile mit-krb5

emerge -u world wanted to downgrade:
mit-krb5-1.2.7-r2
to:
mit-krb5-1.2.7
and doing so has removed libkrb4.so.2, which programs such as mplayer use.
