Hmm, I notice that one of the offenders (gconf for Gnome) has gone from 1.0.8 to 2.2.0. I'm not familiar with Gnome (having used it briefly once and not been back to it) - it's only on my system for a few programs who need it and if a program requires Gnome parts I think long and hard about adding it. Could it be that the new Gnome 2.x stuff drags more junk in then it did before?
