Thanks for your advise. I am answering your email from another PC
- snip -
/usr/bin/X11/startx: line 151: xinit: command not found /usr/bin/X11/startx/line: line 1: xauth: command not found
# /usr/X11R6/bin/startx same outcome
x window could not start
It seems that /usr/X11R6/bin is not in root's path. Did you log on at a console as a regular user and then su to root? If you did, that would explain the missing path.
I was as ROOT. I issued
# startx etc. After installation of xfree completed (without PC rebooted) # emerge -k xfree
Remark: please advise what command will be issued to print screen and
save its content to a file, rather than typing it here avoiding typing
mistake. Thanks
Use tee when emerging.
Whether # tee > /tmp/output.txt (Enter) to have the screen saved to a file output.txt
I already have all packages on CD2 copied to the OS. At beginning time I saw it occasionally downloaded packages from Gentoo website. Installation still continued and I left it there.I shall continue later
# emerge -k kde
having no idea how long it will take.
If all the packages are availale, it shouldn't take too long. Otherwise it could easily take as long as 24 hours.
