In /etc/make.conf is a line for PORT_LOGDIR. Uncomment it and change it if you want the logs elsewhere.I could not discover PORT_LOGDIR there
I found under Portage Directories ==============
#PORTDIR="/usr/portage"
Can I add following line to /etc/make.conf
PORT_LOGDIR="/var/log/portage"

This has nothing to do with syslog-ng. The orginal poster wanted to log the results of a merge.
