Your problem is that it's "masked" ^^^^^^^^

Kindly advise whether I need to issue following command;
# mount -t proc proc /mnt/gentoo/proc # chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash # env-update Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache... # source /etc/profile
Where did you read that the above was necessary ?? That's part of the initial Gentoo installation and I can't see why you'd need to repeat it...
