[gentoo-user] SIOCSIFFLAGS: device or resource busy

eth0 was working fine, then I edited /etc/conf.d/net and added a gateway 
and rebooted.  When it came back up, eth0 didn't come up (and spit out the 
above error).  ifconfig eth0 shows that everything looks good, except that 
it's not up.  ifconfig eth0 up gives the same error.  So, it appears that 
it's not an interrupt  or module problem.

Any ideas?
