Then tried with the Gentoo 2.6 Live CD and it booted!!! Now I just have to read some installation manuals (I hope).

I'm a Linux-Desktop newbie, but i can only say that i've installed Gentoo on my ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe (NForce 2) without any problem. The network interface has been detected from the first boot on, audio works fine (so far), but i'm not using RAID and/or Serial-ATA harddisks yet.

It took some time to find out which drivers & other packages I need,
but it works. Some of the drivers (e.g. nforce-net) must be
recompiled each time i recompile my kernel, but that's it.

It's all about configuring the kernel the right way. I didn't use
genkernel; I always configured & compiled my kernels by hand even
on a SuSE box.
